My Ten Favorite Comedy TV Shows

These are my ten favorite comedy shows, ever. Selected by favoriteness (not greatness, not influence, just favoriteness). No particular order. Cheated a little by counting Brass Eye and The Day Today as one show, and Letterman as one show.

My favorite right now is 30 Rock, my favorite ever is Larry Sanders.

30 Rock
The Simpsons
Newsradio
Mr. Show
Brass Eye / The Day Today
Curb Your Enthusiasm
The Larry Sanders Show
Seinfeld
Late Night / Late Show with David Letterman
King of the Hill

UK

I have to say that the most satisfying TV comedy has got to be The Office (UK). The perfect amount of episodes - each with their own arc that adds to the overall arc of the season that adds to the overall arc of the entire run.* They ended on such a strong note AND THEN came back with what is basically a 2 hour movie to tie up all the loose ends and - I don't know how they did it - completely change your opinion about the main character in the last 2 minutes of the show.

There's never been a time where I've stumbled upon an episode on TV and not stopped to finish it up.

*that's the most worthless sentence I've ever written

The Office (both UK and US)

The Office (both UK and US) is number 11, I swear.

Only 1 and 1/2 British Favorites?

I suppose that I favorite things because they make me a believer...
that weirder and weirdest things exist out there.

The Peter Serafinowicz Show
The Armando Iannucci Shows
Jam
Peep Show
Mitchell & Webb
People Like Us
Garth Marenghi's Dark Place
Father Ted
The Thick of It
Look Around You

And Tim and Eric...what about Tim and Eric...

I haven't seen the Armando

I haven't seen the Armando Ianucci shows or people like us... and I like all the rest, but not as much as the ones on my list.

Black Books

I maintain that Black Books is the funniest show ever made.

Books is the funniest show

Books is the funniest show ever made. Must High School

seinfeld?

the rest of the list is aces, but for some reason seinfeld always rubbed me wrong. it was mostly jerry and elaine, kramer and the rest were great, and larry david is a genius.

replace seinfeld with arrested development and i'd tattoo this list on my shoulder in old english script.

Sanders

Couldn't agree more about Larry Sanders. Everyone raves about its tremendous influence -- which is appropriate. And I love to study and think about how it played with documentary style, etc. But the primary reason that I've watched it over and over again is because it makes me laugh so hard that I eventually get a sharp pain in my chest, feel lightheaded and require supplemental oxygen. Pure joy.

Arrested Development?

Can't believe that doesn't make the cut.

re: Arrested Development

Especially since 30 Rock wouldn't exist (or at least it wouldn't be any good) without learning from Arrested Development's greatness. 30 Rock is like Arrested Development with network support, three years later.

Concerned Hater

30 rock/Arrested Dev./The Office (UK/US) would not exist as they are without Larry Sanders Show. So Larry Sanders should cover all 4 of those shows... the fact that Kids in the Hall is not listed is shameful..SHAMEFUL... still, trying to make such a list is challenging...

I probably would have put Stella on my top10, but that's a subjective choice, Kids in the Hall however...

SHAMEFUL!!!!

:D

Love ya, Jesse
