How to Interview

When people ask me how to interview someone for their radio show or podcast, I usually refer them to the This American Life comic book, Radio: An Illustrated Guide. There's not a lot of how-to-interview content there, but what there is is excellent. It's certainly the only guide I used.

Now, I'll just refer people to this excellent guide by our own Podthinker, Colin Marshall. Colin hosts his own public radio show and podcast called The Marketplace of Ideas, and it just celebrated its 100th episode. I was on the show last year.

A shout-out like this is especially meaningful given that it comes from one of my chief how-to-interview models, alongside Charlie Rose, Michael Silverblatt, etc. Given that, it's a little weird that you're less than three years older than me rather than 30-40 years older than me like those dudes, but hey — I'm a weird fella.

(I should add, for any aspiring podcaster reading this, that if they need practice interviewing, I'll come on their podcast and be interviewed by them. I've been doing a lot of that lately. It's nearing "art stunt" territory.)
