Stelllaaaaaaa!
Sad news from the Stella guys...
"The STELLA series was on Comedy Central last summer. The network has offcially decided not to renew it for a second season. At least we got a season, huh? At SF Sketchfest they said they felt that Comedy Central had really supported the show, and the audiences just weren't enough. Sad.
Thank you to all the fans for your lobbying and support. Perhaps Stella will return on TV in some other form in the future. In the meantime, Comedy Central occasionally repeats the episodes, and we are currently working on a DVD which will have the whole season and lots of cool extras. The DVD release (and possible touring) will be this fall."

I really dug the first episode, but after that, I really didn't laugh at this show all that much. Damn shame too, because I thought the pilot showed a lot of promise. Hopefully its summer counterpart, Mind of Mencia, will get the axe as well.
I was afraid that a show with such a concentration of absurdist humor wouldn't last too long. I loved it, and I thought that it got better and better with more episodes (as we really saw the characters develop and flesh-out in their own way.)
Unfortunately, I've run into too many people who just couldn't stomach the "randomness" (as they put it) of the show, and I think that's representative of the general audience's opinion.
Well, c'est la vie... I suppose Comedy Central has to make room for more mass-appreciated shows like Mind of Gallagher, Too Late With Gallagher, Tough Crowd with Gallagher, or Blue Collar TV (with gallagher).
Not to mention PCU, Throw Mama From the Train, and Ghostbusters 2.
I'm oddly resigned to this cancellation. I feel like one season of episodes is somehow enough for me. Maybe I'll feel differently next year when I've been away from the show for longer.
Ahh yes... who could forget Gallagher's triumphant turn as Danny DeVito's character in Throw Momma From the Train!
Sadly, I don't think that there is a current show with comparably absurdist comedy. Granted, I don't have TV and get my show fills exclusively as a result of the glories of the internets, but I haven't seen anything current that falls in the same genre as was Stella.
Sigh... at least we got a season.
