Rappers are called "rappers." Or MCs. This is because they rap. If you want, you can call them a "hip-hop vocalist," or "performer" but that sounds pretty dumb.
THEY ARE NOT CALLED RAP SINGERS. This is because they do not sing.
Rapping and singing are two different things.
This post was inspired by the news on my local NPR affiliate.

That's a good point. On the other hand, I had someone just yesterday in my apartment playing music that featured rap vocals and a produced beat in the background. When I called it "rap," she corrected me, saying it was "beat poetry." In explanation, she talked at length about the artist and his method, citing no actual distinction in the music itself. In conclusion, overclassification is very Old Sincerity.
How 'bout rapsters? Rap-ists? I'M SO OLD!
I've always liked "hip-hopper". Maybe for rappers, producers, hype-men, and musicians.
