I still thing the one dude’s style is sweating Big Boi a little too hard, but here’s another catchy guitar-driven joint from The Knux. They seem to have some money behind them — maybe they’ll blow up. Watch for annoying people telling you about them in 10… 9…

Below: G. Dep “Stay Up”

G. Dep’s first album, “Child of the Ghetto” is one of the better hip-hop records of the first couple years of this century, with some truly classic tracks. Then he allegedly blew his Bad Boy advance, had some substance abuse problems and ended up spending more than three weeks in jail when he couldn’t come up with $750 bail after being arrested for breaking a cell phone in a cell phone store. It’s awful to say it, but that sadness feels just right for Dep, who has always been the kind of streetcorner tale rhymer who thrives on failures and dissapointments. He’s got a new mixtape out, which I’m about to download from his MySpace page. I like the new track below.

“I had a little money but it came and it went / now it’s either pay the rent or stay in a tent / and it don’t make sense, how the shit is intense / and all you got up in your pocket is lint / you get the hint? / Had a cigarette for breakfast, just for beginners / pride for my lunch and sleep for dinner / try to go to church, priest call me a sinner / they call me anything, except for a winner.” – G Dep “Everyday” (one of my favorite hip-hop tracks ever, btw)
