I spent the day yesterday in San Francisco, meeting with Kasper Hauser to write some pledge promos. Last night I spent at my mom's house, where I decided to stay up and watch a bit of SNL -- Hugh Laurie was hosting, and while I'm not a House fan, I have been a bit obsessed with Jeeves & Wooster lately.
I think the set Kanye performed with was the most remarkable I've ever seen on SNL. I like "Love Lockdown" a lot, though it doesn't really gain much from live performance... but that set is amazing and beautiful and mesmerizing.
Also: my favorite sketch of the night, the wedding toasts (I went to be after Kanye's first song, so I probably missed some). Laurie demonstrates how fantastically hilarious he can be in this one (and much of the rest of the cast stretch their wings a bit, too). Sidenote: Fred Armisen is so wonderful.

I agree with Sam. When I hear
I agree with Sam. When I hear the song, I hear a generic world beat, piss-poor singing, auto-tuner and way too much repition of dumb phrases. I think it sucks. I certainly don't think that there is some higher meaning that I can't grasp behind this song. games
I'm biased because I tend to not like hip-hop, and I think Kanye West is a douchebag, but during his performance, all I could think was, "He is not a good singer, and should not try to sing." The rapping parts were fine, but he should stick to that. Maybe it just went over my head.
I, on the other hand do like hip-hop. And I think Kanye West is a douchebag who is not a good singer, and should not try to sing.
The physical set was cool, but that song is shit.
I'll chime in too, if I may: Kanye should not attempt to sing without computerized assistance.Jesse, your musical tastes continue to bewilder and bemuse. Along with your fashion declarations, your musical recommendations are firmly in my "ignore" column. Also, I love you.
I kind of love this song, and this performance of the song. It is a given that the man cannot sing fantastically well. He never claimed to be able to. Artistically speaking though Kanye is head and shoulder above any performer currently out right now. The man is simply a genius. He has a clear vision and presents it through a fantastic mix of fashion, music, and multimedia (video, stills, and motion graphics). All the previous posters just might not get it.
Framedogg, it did not go over our head, we just disagree. I'd like to be able to discuss a musician without being condescended to.

I certainly don't think that there is some higher meaning that I can't grasp behind this song. He uses the phrase "danger zone". Seriously, danger zone. You can like the song, just don't imply that others are dumb because they don't.
