For the LA meetup, we're meeting at the Ikea food court in Burbank on May 1st at around 6:30 PM. The This American Life Live! show is down the street at eight, but tickets sold out very fast. Please let me know if are planning on going to both Ikea and the TAL show, so I can figure out if anyone's coming with me to TAL :). One way or the other, we'll have some fucking meatballs and lingonberry drink.
Come hang out and meet up with other listeners. Purchase required. They specialize in desserts and ice cream. They also have sandwiches, salads, and quiche. We will be meeting in their back room. There are lots of good local bars we can hit following the meet up – Mary’s Attic is a lot of fun!

Shortly after Steve Albini was a guest on our live show in Chicago, his band, Shellac rocked the city live in concert. My guest on this installment is rock and roll musician and producer Steve Albini. He's the owner of Chicago's Electrical Audio, and has recorded more than a thousand bands, including Nirvana, The Stooges and many others. He's known for approaching his work humbly, as an engineer, rather than as a producer.
I talk with Steve about growing up punk rock in Montana, about his college days in Chicago, and how he developed his production skills and ideals. We also talk a bit about his strong ideas on the music industry. He's well known for a piece he wrote in Maximum Rock & Roll on the awful economics of major labels.

On this week's show The Del Close Marathon, Ian Roberts from the Upright Citizen’s Brigade and Anthony King of the UCB Theater join us to talk about the marathon which took place in memory of the legendary comedian. Jeff Griggs, author of “Guru: My Days with Del Close”.
For over 30 years Del Close was the leading light in improvisational comedy in Chicago, having a huge influence on Mike Meyers, Bill Murray, John Belushi and the Upright Citizen’s Brigade, among many others. Following Del’s passing in 1999, the UCB started the annual Del Close Marathon as a means of celebrating their mentor’s life, and passing on his legacy to future generations. Ian Roberts and Anthony King from the UCB talk about the event.
Jeff Griggs’ book “Guru: My Days with Del Close” explores elements of Close’s biography, from his childhood in Kansas, his early years as an actor to his involvement with the Compass Players and Second City.

As most of you know, The Sound of Young America will be live in Chicago on Halloween. We're at the Second City's e.t.c. stage, with an in-person taping and lots and lots of big fun. Best of all, it's all 100% free.
So far, you can expect comedy from Hannibal, Team Submarine, Schadenfreude and The Second City, PLUS an interview with rock superproducer Steve Albini.
We may yet add a music act to the mix, but things are looking really exciting. The comedy lineup is bursting and I can't wait to talk to Steve -- I spoke with him briefly today and he's a firecracker.
