Judge John Hodgman Episode 56: Early Man

Troy and Carmen are a married couple caught in a clash of the clock. Troy is a stickler for punctuality, going out of his way to never be late for appointments, parties, movies or concerts. But his quest to avoid tardiness has gone too far in the other direction, arriving extra early everywhere he goes. Carmen says her husband's early bird ways are making her squirm, arguing that it's just as rude to be so early as it is to be late. Troy makes the case that there are perks to being first in line -- and besides, it's family tradition!

Is it too late to change Troy's habits, or should the couple loosen up and live a little less by the clock? In this time tiff, only one man can decide. Judge John Hodgman!

quick thought on the 'Early Man'

Have to agree with the honorable judge on this one. If we are entertaining, and we very often do... the time I lay out is critical. If I say "6 pm", odds the wifey and I are busting our ass to have everything nice right up until about 5:50 pm. That might be something so simple as a few folks over for beers.

It's nice you want to show up early, but that puts us in an imposition as hosts. First off, we don't want you to see how filthy we really live, and we now have to stop cleaning to engage you as a guest. So, 6 pm absolutely means 6 pm.

As for late, I don't care about late. You don't even have to show. I would WAY rather you be late than early. If you are going to be more than an hour late, a simple text would be a courtesy.
