flu shots

My husband and I once talked to an oncologist who used to work for the CDC. He said that they have to start manufacturing vaccine so far in advance, that the process by which they try to predict which strain of influenza will be prevalent the following year is about as accurate as throwing a dart at a dartboard. For that reason, he never gets a flu shot. We've kept getting them anyway, just in case, but there's always been a lingering doubt in the back of my mind as to whether or not it is really worthwhile. I was glad to hear you say that even if the vaccine is not the same strain, it can still have a mitigating effect on the virus. Guess we'll keep getting them.

Also, the plural of genus is genera, although I've found that often tends to confuse people.

Sources?

Hey, long time listener here! Loved this episode in particular, so much that I'd love to have a look at your sources for this episodes, especially for the number of victims of the different influenzas. Am I just not looking hard enough?
