Sawbones: Organ Transplants

This week on Sawbones, Dr. Sydnee and Justin are giving the greatest gift of all, which is to say a kidney.

You can subscribe to their show right now on iTunes! Then tweet about or follow the show on Twitter (@Sawbones) so all your friends and family can be as horrified and entertained as you.

Show Idea

Hey, you guys should do a show involving the history of the medical symbol (you know, the one your "snakes on a bone" is modeled after?). I have heard so many stories about it that I don't know how to sort it out. I have heard it comes from the caduceus, aschlepius's (sp) staff, Moses' staff, etc. It would be really interesting to see what the symbol actually is and how we got it. Love the show. Keep up the good work!

kidney/pancreas recipient

Ryan and Jen,
I am sorry you have gotten such news at the holiday season. I received my gift April 1st this year of a kidney and pancreas. I do not wish the journey you are now on to even my worst enemies especially after having walked the same path. But know this, at the end of the journey, you will find you have more strength than you thought you had and find out there are people whose kindness far exceeds what you would expect and you will truly know what a gift life is.

With all my thoughts and prayers,

Yesterday we were told that our daughter, 8 months, would have to see a nephrologist and worst case scenario could ultimately need a kidney transplant. Merry Christmas right?

We also had an extended stay in the hospital at birth. Justin's elevator story made me cry laughing.

Transplants? How about facial reconstruction?

From Tyco Brahe's silver nose to covering WWI vets facial injuries, how about covering the history of facial prostheses and facial reconstruction?
