I put it to the panel that Frankenstein is ALSO the name of the monster. In the original story, he considers himself to be Victor Frankenstein's son, somewhat. And Victor thinks of himself as somewhat of a father of the creature. Now, if we accept the fact that he is a sort of son, it stands to reason that the son would inherit his father's name. Thus, the monster is--like Victor and his father before him--a Frankenstein by descent.
